ERIC SELNER
Vocals, Piano, Harmonicas

Eric started playing the piano at a very young age... He tells people that his first lesson was somewhere around his 3rd birthday. He swears he remembers crying violently as the teacher taught him his first notes on the keyboard. He studied classically while growing up and became an accomplished concert musician… but eventually Eric wanted to try his hand at composing his own music. It was during his first years of college (at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH) that he got the chance to show off some of his own tunes. He joined the band Seven Kings and was the lead vocalist for the band. Along with fellow songwriter Jason Lustig, Eric led the Seven Kings to popularity in the Cleveland area as they released three CDs independently ‘Self-titled’, ‘Interrupting the Morning’, and ‘Play This Side’.

In 2002 when Eric met up with his high school classmates Matt Miller and Greg Garwood, he became very excited about the possibility to write music for different instrumentation. The addition of a lead guitar and saxophone opened up plenty of new ideas in Eric’s head. He also loves playing with the ‘ultra-talented’ members of CWB. “The other guys really push me to practice hard… It’s amazing how quickly the other guys pick up on new tunes. You won’t find too many bands with this level of talent on guitars, horns, bass and drums… it’s really quite humbling to be a part of.” His favorite CWB tunes are ‘Belinda 89’ and ‘Dropped the Dream’ as they both combine lyrics full of passion (which is all that matters) with solid grooves.

Eric’s main influence on the keyboard is Herbie Hancock. Simply put, Selner says that “the man is amazing!” He has tried to incorporate Herbie’s rhythmic style into his playing… especially at the live shows!
